Satellite - BT Broadcast Services

REACH designed and implemented an innovative network solution for British Telecommunications (BT) to provide the Sydney-LA leg of the live broadcasts for the 2003 Rugby World Cup from Australia.

Service Provided
REACH provided BT with international fibre based ATM connectivity from Sydney to Los Angeles to compliment traditional satellite links. This flexible solution provided BT with numerous advantages, including a more cost-effective and robust broadcast service to their customer, so the event was able to be enjoyed by millions of viewers throughout the UK.

The application of this global broadcast solution has obvious benefits for other sporting events, in particular, events held in Asia.

Satellite – New Skies

Background
In March 2003, REACH delivered New Skies, the global satellite operator, a bundled Teleport and Global Internet Access service complete with telehousing of Customer Provided Equipment at Stanley Earth Station. REACH’s flexibility and responsiveness in developing a customized interim solution enabled New Skies to achieve immediate multi carrier access to their NSS-6 Ku-Band satellite and access to the best connected IP backbone in Asia.

Service Provided
REACH delivered an interim solution using a Transportable 7.2m antenna and ground communications equipment (GCE) from March through to July 2003, in order to meet New Skies’ requirements of service activation and customer testing.

In July 2003, REACH completed the build of a new 13m Ku-Band antenna, the premier Ku-Band platform in Asia, and cut over the services from the interim solution. REACH's solution has enabled New Skies to remotely configure their service with on-site support from REACH's satellite experts at the largest commercial satellite earth station in Asia.
